“INHALE EXHALE” is an international workshop dedicated to development of contemporary wind music.

Goal

To inspire professional composers to create works for wind ensembles and enrich the modern wind repertoire, overcome stagnation in the genre, and develop performing and composing skills.

Features

1. Concerts of new wind music.

2. Open orchestra rehearsals, score readings.

3. Individual work with masters on creating new compositions.

4. Lectures, masterclasses, and seminars from leading performers and composers.

Participants

15 composers from Russia and other countries: students, postgraduates, graduates of music universities, and members of creative unions.

Unique
experience

Participants will have the opportunity to create pieces for wind ensembles and orchestra together with leading professionals and hear their works performed live. The best pieces will be included in the wind orchestra repertoire.

Stage 01. Applications
12 May-01 Jun
Students, postgraduates, graduates of music universities, and members of creative unions are invited to apply. The application period for composers is open until June 01, 11:59 PM (UTC+5).
02-03 Jun
Selected applicants will be divided into two groups based on experience. 
Group A: mainly undergraduates and young composers with little experience.
Group B: graduates, postgraduates, and members of professional unions.
04-05 JUn
The results will be announced via Email. Selected applicants will receive a personal notification with detailed information about the next steps and the workshop schedule. Please make sure  your contact information is correct when submitting your application.
Stage 02. Remote online
06-30 JuN
Individual mentoring with composers on creating new works for wind orchestra. Master classes and lectures on the history of wind instruments, traditional performance and exploration of modern playing techniques.
01-31 JUl
Lectures devoted to the world heritage of wind music, the art of instrumentation and arrangement, preparation of scores, and the peculiarities of conducting a wind orchestra.
01 Aug-30 Sep
Detailed discussions, expert guidance and development of creative and technical aspects of their works. Finalization of compositions and preparation for final concerts.
Stage 03. Onsite (Yekaterinburg, Russia)
20-23 OCt
Rehearsals with a wind orchestra and ensembles of works created by masters and compositions created by participants during the workshop. Premiere concerts.
Note!
During Stage 03, composers from other cities coming to Yekaterinburg will be provided with accommodation. Participants pay for travel expenses themselves.

Who is organizing the event?
The event is organized by the Creative Initiatives Institute and "UralMolOt" the Ural Branch of the Guild of Young Musicians of the Russian Music Union.
How can I get to the workshop?
The event will take place at the Ural Cultural Center (Russia, Yekaterinburg, Studencheskaya str., 3). Check the geo location here.
How much does participation cost?
Participation in the workshop is free of charge.
Do you offer visa support?
Upon individual request, we can provide an official invitation letter to assist with visa applications. However, participants are responsible for applying for their visas themselves.
Will accommodation be provided?
Yes, accommodation and meals will be provided for visiting composers during Stage 03 of the workshop. Travel expenses must be covered by the participants themselves.
In which language will the events be held?
The working languages of the workshop are Russian and English.
Who retains the rights to the compositions?
The author retains the copyright to their composition. The piece will be performed during the Laboratory only with the author’s consent.
